If the user makes a valuable contribution to the site, then a little bit of link love is a nice way of saying thanks. Spam for spam's sake is going to just get you caught by Askimet. Sometimes even "your blogger display name" is enough. I do not support massive comment spamming, nevertheless if the blog handles "your" topic and you have something relevant to say (beside "Hey boy, what a nice post!!!"), why not to leave your url.
