BlueHatSEO Technique #5-Get A Link From ALL of Your Competitors

Posted By Eli On January 27, 2006 @ 9:44 pm In Blue Hat Techniques | 114 Comments

So this sounds impossible right? Well it’s definitely possible it’s just really sneaky and underhanded. However to be clear, this technique involves your competitors WILLINGLY linking to you. This is a natural link and although a underhanded technique it is completely white hat.

First you will need some tools

1) A quality link exchange script (not a link exchange directory script). I suggest you use [1] PHP Link Manager because it does a great job of reading your links on their pages without them having to be absolutely perfect. You will also need some knowledge of PHP because you will need to modify this script.

2) A proxy hitter that allows multiple domains. I would suggest you use one called [2] Stealth Advertiser. Now let me get one thing straight. This Stealth Advertiser program is a WORTHLESS program that does not deliver on it’s promise of “Millions of visitors.” Don’t use it for its intended purpose! I will not give a link to the company that makes it because they are a bogus company. So if you are actually interested, read the readme file. Until then, we are going to use the program in a little more ingenious way to get what we want.

Step 1-Install the link exchange script somewhere on your site. Edit the code so towards the top it says something like this:

Random MYTOPIC Site

[3] Link To Some Site

Then get the script to rotate through a few sites you’ve hand selected that are related to your site’s topic. No more than 10. Then below that; where the script displays the link exchanges put the heading as

Permanent MYTOPIC Links

Link 1

Link 2

etc….you get the idea

Then below that put the form they will use to add their site to the permanent links portion. This script MUST force them to already have a link to your site on theirs before they may submit their link. Otherwise the affect is lost.

Step 2- Install Stealth Advertiser and put in the url to the link exchange page you’ve just created as the referring url 61 or so times. Then remove all items from the list and click Add By Search. This will allow you to pull a HUGE list of sites that are directly your competitors in Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Then add another site or something you own so you can test to make sure it’s really working.

Step 3- Click Start and let it finish. This will take several hours depending on how many competitors you have.
What will happen?

This will pull your competitors website’s 61 or so times and make it look like it’s coming from your links page. When they view their stats they will see a large amount of visitors coming from your site to theirs. They will follow the link and see your links page. They will not see themselves on the Permanent Links section and will assume that all the traffic came from the random rotation. Even if they are a big site and normally have a no linking policy, I guarantee you this. The first thought that will go through their head will be “I gotta get on that permanent links section.” When they read the form and it requires them to have a link back they will decide that it is worth it and they will link to you.

This is a VERY effective technique. In fact, from my experience this works a hundred times better than personally emailing every one of your competitors. If you have a lot of competitors and/or a lot of bit keywords you compete for this will benefit you the most. You can gain a couple hundred to a thousand RELEVANT links within a day or two.

I am just setting this up now on a new URL.
I came accross the Stealth Advertiser and have used it for a few days. Not sure how heavy to go on the postings though. I agree with your posting in theory, I think the Stealth program does need some sort of qualifier. I am also using the Google page rank push technique ‘blue hat #2′ on the same site. The idea of me setting this up is to push pagerank towards one of my ecommerce sites.
I will post up full reports over next few weeks.

Hi Eli.

I was wondering if you use specific code in the setup file of Php Link manager to get the Random Links section and Permanent Links section formatted. Thx in advance and I’ll be happy to provide feedback on how this works for me.

#4 Comment By Nick On January 8, 2007 @ 7:58 am

Hi Eli,

Thanks again for a great post

Just wanted to know if u could suggest other proxy hitter that allows multiple domains (besides StealthAnonym).

See ya!

#5 Comment By Desybabe On January 31, 2007 @ 1:12 pm

I tried this using [4] www.rugby-centre.co.uk last year as you can see by my post.
The home page was supposed to be the one to get all the weight of the rank and this had one link out to my chosen site.

What happened was the page with the links on them had a PR of 3 and the home page never got a rank at all.

[5] http://www.rugby-centre.co.uk/rugby_equipment_man/rugby_equipment.php

This page now only has a PR of 1

My conclusion is that it did not work.

I have had no joy out of the stealth advertiser and have tried it on several sites.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has had any luck with either the PR push or stealth advertiser.

Thanks
Derek

I’m curious about one thing,
do you use proxies with stealth advertiser? I tried to put in a proxy list -all of them are working- but it doesn’t seem to do anything, any ideas?

and if you don’t use a proxy, wouldn’t it look a little odd to the people looking at the stats?

#7 Comment By Pay Per Install On April 2, 2007 @ 1:19 pm

I dont belive this. Is this realy working? You cant do this forever once the partner you find will realize that you cheated him. or not?

#8 Comment By Peidmont On April 12, 2007 @ 8:06 am

I agree install. I think someone wh o notices a surege in traffic would also notice if the traffic suddently stopped. They don’t seem liekyl to be too lazy to take down the link either.

#11 Comment By Tim_Myth On May 14, 2007 @ 12:56 pm

It’s a nice idea, and it would probably work quite well for a web saavy crowd, but I know too many small business owners with websites that have no clue what a traffic log is.

Along the same lines however, you can simply create a niche link directory with a title containing keywords for your “real” site. Then get competitors to exchange links with it. After a few months, simply redirect the domain to your real site, and your competitors will be linking to you. This method works especially well with stupid webmasters who don’t know what a traffic log is. :)

Combining the two methods, you could probably get most of your compititors to link to you.

but is this blackhat? if so doing that will get our sites banned right?

#22 Comment By Paperless On April 28, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

I was thinking about this and I don’t think it will work for the sites I am competing with because all of the other sites in my term aren’t really doing SEO — its mostly microsoft, wikipedia, magazine articles, etc… not other companies trying to do SEO on the same term. Most of them seem not to really have many inlinks…

#34 Comment By Pete On November 10, 2008 @ 8:15 am

The idea is good the software being used is what’s going to let you all down

The hit generator would need to be a server side application you could load a URL list into, that would need to send hits out at random times and tick away round the clock.

Then there is the Proxy list you will need high Anonymity Proxies and hundreds of them
A way to check them and update the list

Then if you use a links page you’re going to need to cloak it in a way that the user sees it
But the bots see the pages you want the links going to

Just a few of the problems with this idea

All this cos People will not share links “human greed”
(and boy this lets the Big G hold you all by the nuts)

My website URL I will withhold to save the admin deleting it
I mean no one wants to be seen linking to a adult site (bad neighbors and all that)
not many people not had a peep at some .:)

On a side note have you seen the notes in the SERP this site may damage your computer?
This has to be a bad neighbor so when I setup a domain with all these type of links on it
Plus ONE link to a good domain why did that domain not drop in the SERPS?

Yes a lot of good and bad info about SEO around one person see’s it posted on a domain rewrites it and posts it again

Read it test it only thing that works, when there’s a change/update test it again

OMG if i keep on this will end up in some ebook
