He/they proposed service for destroying of your competitor’s websites by creating huge amount of abuses to your domain registrar and hosting company where your site is located with claiming that you are spammer and etc. they also provided guaranty that site will be down in X days. your way much cheaper

Great to see some underhanded tactics on display from the one and only bluehat. Ive had these same tactics employed on a number of my money sites and its annoying as hell. The best way around it is to have a tight arrangement with your bp hosting.

Yep, still reading ya via RSS. I’ve seen this trick played out a while ago with GoDaddy - someone was kind enough to blast a huge load of abuse reports and next thing you know - GoDaddy being who they are, shut down over thousand of domains - mostly legit.

It’s nice to know Spamhaus/Spamcop is loosing their cool, maybe they’ll be forced to improve a bit.

Thats really interesting. The method for destroying of your competitor’s websites by creating huge amount of abuses to your domain registrar and hosting company. Not only do you kill their site, but likely their [17] name and reputation too, especially if its white hat. Interesting…

Very interesting tactic. You’d think that with a bit of 3rd party research that hosts would be able to avoid shutting down totally legit domains when people use this tactic. On the other hand, investigating spam reports doesn’t exactly earn them any money. Something tells me this tactic may me usable for some time.

In regards to this technique to bring down your competition… I must say it’s evil. In a lot of cases it’s ruining the livelihood of at least one person (assuming it’s a real business in the first place). Just can’t do it. Hopefully, I won’t have to end up being a victim of it.

You could always do it back to them I suppose. Even though the spam complaints are anonymous and they do their best to remove their information if they’re copying a real spam mail that came to them chances are it’ll have some hidden tracking in the code that they didn’t spot. Look for long hex keys

I know the following question is not related to this post… but I wanted to ask this anyway:

Do you, or did you ever, use any cloakers? Not talking about link cloakers here, obviously.

But if you did… or if you have experience with them… could you recommend which cloaker is the best one to use? Because I know of all the very commercial ones (SSEC) and bad ones (will not mention names, but one in particular is way overpriced to only get a great IP list)… but I was wondering if there may be a unknown one that is really good. Unknown because I rather use what not many people are using, currently.

oh, and go ahead and add another notch to your “loyal visitors” counter.

I think using site explorer you can firstly find out the competitor backlinks, try to make them for your website.

Then find out what sources they are using to get brand name. Try the same tools to do so!

Other than this you can also try using some more keywords and get yourself ranked!

Even the posts tactics are great to kick down competitors!

I have bookmarked your blog and will use it for future reference as you have really interesting posts!

1) Hehe my first thought upon reading the title was “could this be done to wikipedia” ))

2) Really glad you are bringing this up because as you say, if someone can bring down a site that has done no harm, the system needs to be changed. How ridiculous - that they can take any anonymous report and take a site down (I’m not sure how they can do this) without any verification of whether the complaints are legit.

3) If your content is getting ripped, I’ve found that a DMCA complaint also often pales compared to a well-crafted letter threatening legal action. They often pee their pants (depending on where they’re from). Put a few words (i.e. 10) from your page into the google advanced search “exact phrase” box, you’ll see almost all copies of your content right away.

The simple thing to do is to copy your competitors strategies, check your competitors backlinks and try to get backlinks there as well.

If you have a large enough site, you can fight this sort of thing by having your users directly complain to their ISPs, or to the list manager directly, which I’ve done to some effect.

It can also help to separate your addresses sending mail from those you use for hosting. The IP I send mail from has no website.

If my penetration levels are 80% then that looks really good, but I’ll never know how good or bad this actually is until I benchmark my competition.
