I have a feeling all the hosting companies out there offering “seo hosting” that is generally prohibitively expensive just dropped a little crap in their pants.
Good article though. I personally favor using seperate IPs for different “hats” of sites, or putting especially high risk domains all on one IP. No sense in associating domains that don’t need to be associated.

I think a domain with a very high # of subdomains would very quickly seem spammy upon human review though

Let me just make sure that I follow this correctly. I thought maybe I had seen a contradiction between your statement on SEOEmpire Part 1 and the above.

One SEOEmpire Part 1 you said that you said (proved) that you could have a good (profiting) domain on say maindomain.com and even if you built 100 subdomains all with links to maindomain.com (eg: 1.maindomain.com, 2.maindomain.com,…., 100.maindomain.com) then if the search engines disliked and banned all of the subdomains, your main domain would remain untouched in the search engines.

The benefits of this I understand were that you maybe had 100 subdomains with say 100 pages each pointing at your maindomain.com and thus giving you 10000 links to your maindomain.com that you were in control of.

However….
In the post above you say

“If your innerlinking in a way that mimics About.com or similar than great. If your innerlinking in a way that say Blog Solution or something would, for the sake of link building to each subdomain, I’d advise against it for footprint reasons and for god sakes if you’re hosting a blackhat generated site on a white hat domain don’t even consider it!”

This seems like a contradiction to me as the post above suggests what you do with your subdomains could negatively affect the status of your maindomain.com.

Can you tell me where I’m going wrong in my thinking?

Well I have a question my self actually. I started to worry about the name server distribution thing.
You said not to be taken lightly.
Currently I have alot of domains (.info) with the same name server that were registered in the last 2 months. None of them have been indexed yet and I’m starting to worry about it.
So my question is this. Do you know where I can find some information on how to have multiple name servers on my linux box? I searched but couldn’t find anything on the internet. Maybe you know how to do it in linux? Something like ns1.domain1.com,ns2.domain2.com,ns3.domain3.com,ns4.domain4.com,ns5.domain5.com,ns6.domain6.com,ns7.domain7.com,ns8.domain8.com but all on the same linux box.
Is there any other way maybe to do it?
If you have 1000 domains how many name servers you must to spread evenly in order avoid google slap?
I look forward for your answer.
